Different Bodies: (self)representation, Disability and the Media

Presenters from the UK and overseas came together at the ‘Different Bodies: (self)representation, Disability and the Media’ on the 23rd June to share ideas through research findings, current debates, artwork and biographical accounts of the impact of the media on attitudes and perceptions of the body. PASCCAL presented some early findings from the interviews conducted with the channel 4 team involved in the televised production of the games. The presentation initiated an interesting audience discussion on the meaning of para-sport in shaping public perception of disability and a great opportunity to hear some more personalised stories from the audience on the experience of watching the Paralympics. The day involved several interesting panels exploring the dimensions of difference in the representation the disabled body.
